Which vitamins are good for your teeth?

Which vitamins are good for your teeth?

Your smile is important. It is the first thing others notice about you when they first meet you. It can give patients confidence and improved self-esteem while also giving others a sense of health and wellness. While visits to the dentist twice a year and proper oral health care habits at home are two great ways to achieve dental health and wellness, there are some other steps Simi Valley area patients can take to keep their smile beautiful. There are several vitamins and minerals that can be used to also strengthen the bones, teeth, and gums!

Below is a sampling of the vitamins and minerals that are beneficial to one’s oral health and wellness:

Vitamin A

Vitamin A promotes the production of saliva and maintains healthy mucus membranes. This in turn reduces the presence of bacteria in the mouth that can contribute to periodontal disease, and also protects and coats the cheeks and gums. Vitamin A is found in many fruits and vegetables that are orange in color, such as carrots and oranges, as well as dark leafy greens such as spinach and kale.

Vitamin B

Vitamin B can help patients in addressing oral inflammation while also addressing problematic concerns such as canker sores. This vitamin is plentiful in fish, poultry, red meats, and most dairy products.

Vitamin C

Keeping the connective tissues of the gums is key to holding teeth in place and preventing gum disease. Vitamin C, which is found in peppers, oranges, berries, and sweet potatoes can keep the gum tissues healthier!

Calcium

The mouth is made of teeth and bones that can benefit from the consumption of calcium. Calcium can maintain bone growth and strength while also keeping teeth healthy. While calcium is often found in milk, it can also be consumed through almonds, green vegetables, and oysters.
